Sri Mulyani's Biography
Sri Mulyani Indrawati is an influential woman in the economic field in Indonesia. Sri Mulyani was born in Tanjungkarang, Lampung, August 26, 1962. She has served as Head of the Institute for Economic and Community Research, Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia (LPEM FEUI) since June 1998. She was then trusted by President SBY to serve as State Minister for National Development Planning or Head of Bappenas. On December 5, 2005 when President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono announced a cabinet reshuffle, Sri Mulyani was transferred to become Minister of Finance replacing Jusuf Anwar.
Prior
to being appointed as Minister of National Development Planning/Head of
Bappenas for the United Indonesia Cabinet, Sri Mulyani moved to Atlanta,
Georgia, United States of America, as a consultant at USAid since August 2001
in the context of cooperation to strengthen local institutions. Namely,
providing postgraduate scholarships for regional university lecturers. There he
gave a lot of advice and advice on how to design master's programs for
university education in the region and other USAid programs in Indonesia,
especially in the economic field. In addition, he also teaches about the
Indonesian economy and macroeconomics at Georgia University and does a lot of
research and writes books.
Since
2008, he has served as the Acting Coordinating Minister for the Economy, after
the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dr. Boediono was sworn in as Governor
of Bank Indonesia. He was named Asia's best Finance Minister for 2006 by Emerging
Markets on 18 September 2006 on the sidelines of the World Bank and IMF Annual
Sessions in Singapore. She was also voted the 23rd most influential woman in
the world by Forbes magazine in 2008 and the 2nd most influential woman in
Indonesia by Globe Asia magazine in October.
Sri
Mulyani Indrawati or familiarly called Mbak Ani, is an economist who often
appears on seminar stages or is quoted in various mass media. This lecturer at
the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia (FE-UI) was also active as an
advisor to the government along with a number of other leading economists in
the National Economic Council (DEN) during the Abdurrahman Wahid
administration. As in Indonesia, in America he also often attends seminars, but
there are more international problems than in Indonesia.
In
early October 2002, Sri Mulyani was elected as Executive Director of the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) representing 12 countries in Southeast Asia
(South East Asia/SEA Group). Since November 1, 2002, he has represented the 12
member countries of the SEA Group at the IMF. His duties as executive director
are related to decision making. To determine the various programs and decisions
to be taken by the IMF. So he does not only represent the interests of
Indonesia, but also the interests of member countries in the IMF and relevant
international forums.
